Happy 2024, Family!
We done made it to the other side. Isn’t that something? Lol
I know your inboxes and social media feeds are likely filled with all kinds of recommendations and “advice” regarding how to approach the new year. There are vision board parties and goal-setting workshops and affirmation videos happening everywhere. There are those who claim to be able to help you meet your fitness goals and others who say throw the whole notion of goals and resolutions in the trash.
And hey, if you are down for any of that, I get it. Because y’all? I’m a PLANNER planner. You see that image up top? Yeah, that’s my start to 2024. Different planners for different projects and other notebooks for sketching ideas and developing characters all wrapped up like I’m some kind of hobbit preparing to travel to middle earth. Lol Since I was very young, I’ve taken “write the vision and make it plain” quite seriously. It’s not a game. And yet…
…if I didn’t do any of those things, if I didn’t plan a single day, set a single goal, or say a single affirmation, I would STILL be worthy of all the joy and love and peace I desire for this new year. And so are you!
See, that’s it right there. THAT is the life lesson I keep repeating these last few years. There’s nothing wrong with planning but a new year reset doesn’t have to mean we craft every minute and moment to come. Especially when we know that God’s dreams and vision for us are way bigger than we can imagine anyway. In this first week of 2024, I/we do not have to do all the things. In fact, we probably shouldn’t. I probably missed out on some glorious moments of joy, opportunities to be present, as I was fretting about how many planners and notebooks I needed. In fact, I know I did. I am a work in progress.
So it’s time for a shift, Fam. We can write the vision…later.
Maybe instead of planning our entire lives this week, we simply dream. Instead of doing, we just rest. Instead of vision casting, maybe we are simply being invited to get still and listen.
Consider this your permission granted: If you haven’t or do not plan on running out and doing all the things — meditating each day, putting together your reading list, scheduling all the healing modalities available—it’s 100% okay. None of that is reflective of your worth or your capacity to heal anyway.
We all live in the tension of wanting to feel/do better but also not knowing how or where or when to start. And new seasons…like this New Year…are often the time when we feel inclined to begin doing “the work.” But let’s be sure we aren’t rushing the process. Pace yourself, Friend. Whether you scoot on your back, crawl, leisurely stroll, walk, run, or fly toward your destiny, you are going to get there. As long as you are moving forward, that’s all that matters.
This ain’t no race. And *whispers* there isn’t a finish line. Just, hopefully, a healing process that will help you reclaim more joy, peace, and acceptance into your life today and eventually. :)
Love y’all,
