What are we eating this week?
The saying goes, "the thing you feed the longest, grows the strongest"
Hey Family!
I hope your holiday was more than you could have imagined—whatever more looks like to you. More joy. More rest. More hope. More time to dream.
Ok, so here’s the understatement of the year:
I love food. 🤣🤣
Even after realizing that I often negatively use food to provide emotional comfort and manage anxiety, I can still recognize that I also love food because I see the creation of it as an art form that demands to be consumed. Just like I’m drawn to authors who write well, I’m drawn to folks who can “burn” in the kitchen, as my Granny would say.
In fact, my husband is an amazing cook and I’m always fascinated (and a little annoyed 🥴) by the time and attention he gives to his meals. I don’t have the patience to cut peppers into perfect 2 cm squares but go awf, Bae. 🤣🤣
Seriously, I’ve come to realize that my husband and those like him aren’t just good cooks. They curate food. They take the time to prepare a dish so that the love and care is obvious. They feed us and themselves with intention.
So I ask...WHAT, and more importantly, HOW are you feeding yourself this week, loves?
And clearly I’m not just talking food.
There’s so much we can take in nowadays. Between social media, our jobs, our families, and our dreams, there is a steady stream of content and thoughts bombarding us daily. When processing all of it, don’t be like me in the kitchen, cutting that stuff any ol’ kind of way just to get it in my body. Prepare each day with love and care. Move through your days being mindful of what you are absorbing. It’s way more useful and healing if we take the time to be intentional about what we take in. It allows us to slow down the pace and pay close attention to what we are seeing and feeling.
Yes, we can do that through meditation but we also can do it by just sitting still for 10 minutes or taking a walk. No, we can’t control it all. Hell, we probably can’t control most of what goes on outside of us. We all have to live and work and engage. But we do get to decide HOW we live and work and engage.
Let’s curate the mental, emotional, and spiritual food we feed on this week. I’m certain it will make a difference.
Love y’all. 💜

In February 2020, I launched my own tee and hoodie line, building upon the success of my #dopeblackwriter tees and hoodies. I named the brand “Free Living” because I really wanted to help others declare their intention to live their lives as free as possible. I firmly believe that we should all be safe to be our authentic selves and wanted the brand to celebrate the ways we all do that.
Buuuut the pandemic slowed things way down for me, especially as a small biz with limited infrastructure at the time. But guess what, Friends! The website is updated and we are BACK back. We started this company with Dope Black Writer and Dope Black Reader tees and hoodies but since then have added more items including some BLACK JOY tees and totes, mugs, etc.
Free Living is a family affair. Hubby and Sugarplum help in many areas. And my granny used to say “closed mouths don’t get fed.” So on this #cybermonday WE WOULD LOVE YOUR SUPPORT.
