Today—at least on my side of this glorious planet—is the Winter Solstice. It’s often called “the darkest day of the year.” For me, it’s always been super meaningful. There’s something eerie and beautiful and still on this evening in particular. Something I can’t even capture in pictures (though, as you see, I will try) In fact, I see this day as a metaphor for hope. Yes, science tells us that the winter solstice is the one day of the year with the least amount of daylight. But doesn’t that also mean that tomorrow and every day afterward will have more?
Whew.
There’s hope in knowing that the darkest day of our lives is also our turning point. That the next day can and will and must be brighter. That there’s something on the other side of our lowest point of pain.
Hope is a sustaining force. A necessary grace. Let’s continue to shift our lenses, Fam. See your darkest day as the turning point in this season of your life.
One breath at a time,
